About Us
"This band creates a truly electric atmosphere, both visual and spontaneous. It features three high quality vocalists, a driving rhythm section and a kicking horn section that won't stay still for a second! It's a 'High Energy' style and vocalist Jimmy Alderson is the consummate frontman, an expert both at working the crowd and at audience interaction. It's a winning formula and it puts this a band in great demand".

JOEY THE LIPS this year celebrates '14 years on the road'. In that time the band has worked in many areas of music including a spot on tour with American soulster Edwin Starr and performances on BBC1 featuring a medley performed with Atomic Kitten & Martine McCutcheon for Children in Need in 2000. In 2001 they were resident band on Carlton TV's 'Langsford Late' TV show - a series of 8 chat shows with Ruth Langsford. In between the band recorded a BBC promotional video on the set of Noel Edmonds House Party at BBC Television Centre, London. They then finished work on a number of projects including a recording of Midnight Hour with Geno Washington. Other guests joining the band on stage recently include Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and M People/Eurythmics/Lisa Stansfield Saxophonist Snake Davis. International appearances include gigs in various European countries including a 3 day appearance at the Guinness Jazz/Music Festival in Cork, Ireland in 1999 and 2002. The bands latest CD - 'Firing On All Cylinders' features 16 live tracks and this release brought them the accolade of 'Artist of The Month' at Virgin Megastore, Plymouth in September 2005. In November 2005 BBC1 commissioned the band to appear live on TV for Children in Need.

"Joey the Lips are a big funky outfit making a joyous sound in the true spirit of the soul band revue - great entertainment"

Jimmy Alderson shares lead vocals with Naomi Tanton and Kat Savage. Naomi Tanton joined the band in 2000 after working professionally with national trio Fresh and at Channel 4 on their Music Watch programme. Jimmy's early music career as a professional vocalist was by way of working internationally in Europe as well as maintaining a regular spot with his own soul-based outfit at the BBC Club, London. After relocating to Devon he joined Joey The Lips in 2003. Kat is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Contemporary Music where she gained a degree in vocal studies. She has worked with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well as Skunk Anansie and Carleen Anderson.

"Encores were jaw dropping with totally unexpected showmanship and flair you rarely see these days. Its hard to believe that Joey the Lips have been going fourteen years because they’re as fresh today as they were when I first heard them all those years ago. Go see them, you won’t be disappointed"

The rhythm section is driven by one of the best drummers around, Adam Waller. Guitar pro Steve Hood sets the audiences alight with his fiery lead breaks and is complemented by funky ex-session bassman Simon Westaway and keyboard wizard Steve Northcott. The band is essentially a very visual live act and features a kicking horn section that really don't keep still for a second! - John George on Tenor Sax, Jamie Dove on trombone and trumpet legend Robbie Rogers.

Originally formed as a soul outfit the band is best described now as Soul/Blues/Funk outfit with a bit of Disco, Motown & Rock thrown in! Within todays set are classic soul numbers such as Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness and Aretha Franklin's Think, but also popular contemporary classics like Queen's Don't Stop Me Now and the band's storming version of the B52's Love Shack - with a heavy metal medley thrown in!

"I got near the front just in time to see the kind of explosive team effort that left me exhilarated. They must have been choreographed by the best that Andrew Lloyd Webber knew because they were one cohesive unit in perfect harmony. The atmosphere really was electric and the anticipation all but touchable. Treat yourself , go and see them soon"
